Statesmen Hand Truman Home Dual Loss

KIRKSVILLE, Mo. – Three pin fall wins by the William Penn Statesmen lifted the visitors to a 27-16 victory over the Truman wrestling team on Wednesday night in Pershing Arena. The Bulldogs got wins from Alex Maus, Devon Fenstermaker, Josh Wells and Helmut Rentschler.

Tyler Schilson lost a 4-3 decision in the opening bout of the dual to William Penn's Isaiah Mayorquin and Dan Karlskin fell in 44 seconds at 133 as Truman fell behind 9-0.

Alex Maus edged out a 5-3 win over Tommy Kozak at 141 but nationally-ranked Ryan Maus could not get a late takedown and was defeated 5-2 in the 149-pound match.

Fenstermaker scored a tech fall win at 157 and Josh Wells won 8-1 at 165 to pull Truman to within one at 12-11.

Joe Sumner and Kyle Soderblom righted the ship for the Statesmen with wins at 174 and 184.

Rentschler scored Truman's final points to pull the Bulldogs to within five with a 15-0 win at 197, however Kory Morrow attacked Thomas Redmon early in the final match and score the pin at the 43 second mark to secure the win for William Penn.

Truman will face three Division I schools on Sunday as they will head to Southern Illinois University Edwardsville. The Bulldogs will face the host Cougars, Eastern Michigan and the University of Missouri in dual bouts.
