Softball Placed Seventh in MIAA Preseason Poll

KANSAS CITY - - The Truman softball team was pegged seventh in the 2012 MIAA Softball Coaches' Poll, announced late Thursday by the league office.

Head coach Erin Brown's squad is coming off a 20-28 season in 2011 that included a 10th-place finish in the MIAA. The Bulldogs return ten letterwinners, seven field starters and two pitchers from last year's team, including all-MIAA second-team sophomore Kelsey Bollman (2B/OF; .372 AVG, 1.085 OPS) and all-MIAA honorable mention selections Mary Manley (1B/3B; .329 AVG, 28 RBI), Laura Miller (OF; .327 AVG, 14 SB), and Bridget Schade (OF; .325 AVG, 6 HR).

Defending MIAA co-champion Missouri Western was voted preseason No. 1 by the coaches, collecting eight of 11 first-place votes for 98 total points. Last season's other co-champion, Emporia State, earned the remaining three first-place votes and ranked second with 93 points.

The 2012 season gets underway on Feb. 17, as Truman travels to the Alabama-Huntsville Charger Chillout for six games in three days, starting with a pair of GLVC squads (Quincy, Missouri-St. Louis) on day one.
