Bulldog Wrestling Adds Three More To Deep Recruiting Class

KIRKSVILLE, Mo. – Benjamin Dudley, Maverick McCarty and Dustin McClintock have all signed to join the Truman State University Wrestling team. They join five others who were previously signed by Coach David Schutter this spring.

Benjamin Dudley from St. Louis, Mo. (St. John Vianney HS) posted a 39-11 record as a heavyweight for Vianney as a senior. The three-sport standout notched 16 pinfall wins while he was also a member of the football and volleyball squads.

David Schutter on Dudley: “Ben is a technician, which is rare for a heavyweight wrestler. He comes from Vianney High School and was coached partially by former Bulldog Andy Bader. Dudley will give Truman much need depth at 285 and will battle for starting position. Dudley was an outstanding three sport athlete in high school playing football, wrestling and volleyball. He has quick feet and hands will have to work on increasing his upper body strength.”

Maverick McCarty from Warsaw, Ill. (Warsaw HS) advanced to the state quarterfinals in Illinois as a senior and had a 34-11 record during his senior year. Nine of his 11 losses came against state-ranked opponents as he finished second in the Fort Madison (Iowa) Tournament, fourth in the Quincy (Ill.) Tournament, third in the Quincy (Ill.) Notre-Dame tournament and won the Rochester (Ill.) Tournament at 145-pounds.  He was a first-team all-conference selection.

David Schutter on McCarty: “Maverick is a physical and hard nose competitor, who has a mean streak. He reminds me some of Justin Naumovitz, who was a two-time All-American for Truman back in 1993 and 1994.  McCarty improved his wrestling in the last year and still has plenty of upside to him. Maverick is not afraid of competition and knows that you have to train hard to be successful. He is another solid recruit, who will challenge for a varsity position between 149 and 165 pounds.”

Dustin McClintock from Ozark, Mo. (Ozark HS) was 33-8 as a senior for one of the state's top programs in the 152-pound weight class. Of the 33 wins, 23 came via pinfall with another six on major decisions. He joins fellow teammate JJ Dorrell to become the second member of the Ozark team to continue their wrestling career at Truman.

David Schutter on McClintock: “Dustin is very funky wrestler with his own style. It works well for him with his lanky frame and with some increase strength he could become a dominate college wrestler. The Ozark wrestling program under the leadership of Head Coach Mike Jackson has been developing some outstanding wrestlers. Dustin has been a late bloomer and solid performer over the last two high school seasons for Ozark as a two-time state medalist.”
