QUINCY, Ill. - - Two late goals – including one in the eighth minute of overtime – combined to stun the second-seeded Truman women's soccer team on Friday afternoon, as UW-Parkside came back to earn a 2-1 win in the semifinals of the Great Lakes Valley Conference tournament.

The Bulldogs (12-4-4) now await word from the national committee as to a potential bid in the 2013 NCAA-II tournament that is set to begin next weekend across the country. Truman was ranked third in this week's regional poll, with the top-six earning a bid to the 48-team tournament. UW-Parkside (13-3-3) was ranked fourth in the latest poll and advances to Sunday's GLVC championship match against either Quincy or Rockhurst.

After UWP had an early header goal waved off due to offsides, the Bulldogs began to establish themselves in the offensive end of the field. Following a pair of wide efforts by the purple and white, sophomore Alexis Heffernan came through with her fourth goal of the season by heading in a Suzanne Pelley entry for a 1-0 lead in the 11th minute.

Both teams took 10 shots in an even first-half, with the Rangers taking four corner kicks (three in succession on one possession) to Truman's one en route to forcing Bulldog keeper Emily Bozdeck to make four first half saves.

Then in the second half, the Bulldogs had a handful of chances spread out throughout the first 35 minutes, before UWP began a late push in an attempt to draw even. With just less than four minutes to play, UWP found the equalizer, as Alex Johnson finished a shot into the low right corner from just inside the 18-yard box past a diving Bozdeck.

The teams headed to OT, where Parkside landed the final punch in the 98th minute when defender Niekie Pellens fired a rocket from 30 yards out into the top-left corner of the net, ending the match with a 2-1 UWP decision.

UWP out-shot the Bulldogs 16-14 on the day, including a 9-6 edge in shots on goal. Kristina Weishar and Trisha Shoemaker each took a team-high three attempts, while Bozdeck made six saves in net. Friday marked the first match all season that a team scored two goals in a single game against the 'Dogs.
