Bulldogs Announce Signing Day Class

2013 Football Signing Class

KIRKSVILLE, Mo. – The Truman State University Football team has signed over 20 high school seniors to National Letters of Intent for the fall 2013. The class is balanced evenly between offensive and defensive players with over 10 from the state of Missouri and seven from Texas.

“We feel we have a tremendous advantage recruiting here at Truman because of our national academic reputation,” said Head Coach Gregg Nesbitt. “This is our third full recruiting class and we are excited about the legitimate depth and competition at all positions. This is a balanced signing class between offense and defense with an emphasis on offensive and defensive interiors.”

The St. Louis metro area was the biggest target for the 2013 Bulldogs as eight high school seniors signed from that region.  Texas was the next largest recruiting base for the Bulldogs with seven joining the 10+ on the Truman roster already.

The Bulldogs signed four wide receivers, four offensive linemen and a running back, fullback and quarterback while on defense, the line added six, three corner backs and a safety on signing day.

Additional signings will still occur this spring and will be updated on the Truman website.

The Truman 2013 schedule will be released in full at a later date but includes the home and season opener against Southwest Baptist (Mo.) University and other non-conference games against the University of Central Missouri and Grand Valley (Mich.) State University.

Truman will begin play in the Great Lakes Valley Conference on October 5th at Quincy (Ill.) University and include home games against McKendree (Ill.) University, University of Missouri S&T and St. Joseph's (Ind.) College as well as road games at William Jewell (Mo.) College, Kentucky Wesleyan College and defending champion, the University of Indianapolis (Ind.).

“I would like to thank my staff, including recruiting coordinators Thomas Kearney and Andy Ball along with our entire Truman family for their support and help throughout the recruiting process,” continued Coach Nesbitt. “This thanks includes our academic department heads, our individual faculty members giving weekend academic appointments, Melody Chambers and our entire admissions staff, our Purple Pride volunteer organization and campus tours, Lora Cunningham and the entire Sodexo food service staff, Linda Anderson our Associate Athletics Director for Compliance, Kevin White and Tyler Madsen from our Athletics Communications staff, Mary Jane Kiefer from Financial Aid along with our Pershing custodial staff.
