EAST PEORIA, Ill. – The 22nd-ranked and third-seeded Truman softball team posted a 1-1 record on day one of the Great Lakes Valley Conference tournament on Friday, defeating Lewis 10-7 in the opening round before falling 5-0 to Missouri-St. Louis in the semifinals.

Truman (41-10) will move into the consolation bracket to face William Jewell (Mo.) at 11 a.m. on Saturday morning at the EastSide Centre. The Cardinals lost 3-0 to Bellarmine (Ky.) in their opener but bounced back with a 7-4 win against Rockhurst (Mo.) in the consolation first round. A loss would eliminate Truman from the tournament, but a win would send the Bulldogs into the next round - facing either Indianapolis or Illinois Springfield at 3 p.m. in another elimination game. A 5 p.m. game against the Bellarmine/Mo.-St. Louis loser awaits that winner in what would be a third elimination game of the day for the Bulldogs.

In game one, Truman survived an early onslaught from sixth-seeded Lewis to advance with a 10-7 victory against the Flyers.

Lewis (23-23) pounced on the Bulldogs in the first, putting up a five-spot on six hits against Truman starter Kindra Henze. After the 'Dogs inserted Kelsea Dorsey in the second, Truman settled down and got two runs back in the home half behind an Ally McReynolds double and a Whitney Richardson groundout.

Then, in the third, two Lewis errors on at-bats by Andrea Klipsch and Kelsey Bollman put runners on board with nobody out. Cate Simon doubled to right-center, scoring Klipsch, before Liz Leath singled home Bollman one batter later. Alexis VanNostrand then singled to left field, plating Simon and evening the battle at 5-5.

In the fourth, Truman loaded the bases for Leath, who delivered her second grand slam of the season over the left field fence to put the purple and white on top 9-5.

Simon would then add her 10th home run of the season in the bottom of the sixth to extend the Bulldog lead to 10-5, before Lewis threatened but scored just two in the top of the seventh for the 10-7 final.

A. Van Nostrand went 4-for-4 at the plate, while Leath went 3-for-4 with five RBI. Simon added a pair of hits, with Dorsey earning her 20th win of the season after entering in relief and tossing six innings of one-earned run ball.

In game two, the Bulldogs struggled to put together sustained offense against the Tritons, who scored single runs in the second, third, and fourth innings before adding two more in the fifth for the 5-0 win. Henze took the loss for Truman, while four different Bulldogs combined for the team's four hits in the game.

Danielle Lewellen recorded a double offensively, while Henze gave up four earned runs, walked four, and struck out for in the complete game effort.
