ST. LOUIS, Mo.  – The Truman Baseball team eclipsed their school record win total from a season ago by taking the first of four against Missouri-St. Louis 4-0 but in the nightcap, the Tritons evened the series with a 1-0 victory. The teams will play another twinbill on Monday.

It was a pitcher's day at the UMSL Baseball Field as both offenses struggled. Truman hit .236 on the day with just one extra base hit (a double) while the Tritons batted .196 on 11 singles. Cody Gardner was the hard luck victim in game two after allowing four hits in the complete game while Mark Roberts got his first decision since March 14 as he went seven and a third and shutout the Tritons.

Zak Larkin was the only player on either team to have a day at the plate. Larkin was four for seven at the dish and added a stolen base. Kyle Smith, Dave Gambino and Brendan Trimble all had two hits in the doubleheader.

Game 1 Recap: A four-run third inning and a dominate pitching performance lifted the Truman Bulldogs to the school record for season wins.

Zak Larkin's second plate appearance of the game started the four-run third. He singled down the right field line and went to second on a passed ball. Jarod Hahn drew a walk and Paul Trenhaile got an infield single to load the bases.

Dave Gambino drove in Larkin on a sac fly to right and Brendan Trimble plated Hahn with a single to center. Kyle Smith singled in Trenhaile for the third run and Michael Venturella lined to right for a sac fly to score Trimble.

Mark Roberts allowed six hits in seven-plus innings before being lifted in the eighth. A one-out single brought Coach Dan Davis to the mound and Matt Tometz into the game. With two runners on, Tometz got a fly out to left and a foul out to third to end the inning.

Tometz got the first out in the ninth before giving way to Peter Young for the final two outs.

Game 2 Recap: Truman had runners on in every inning but could not push across a run in a 1-0 loss to the Tritons in the nightcap. The Bulldogs stranded six but also had 10 strikeouts in the loss.

A pair of crafty left-handers kept the hitters at bay. Cody Gardner went the distance for the 'Dogs and allowed just four hits while striking out seven. A.J. McElderry was on the mound for UMSL and surrendered six hits while striking out 10 to pick up the win. Austin Simokaitis pitched the final inning for his 11th save.

The lone run came with two outs in the fifth. An infield single was followed up by basehits by Shane Brinker and Cody Spotanski to break the scoreless tie. Those three hits accounted for all but one UMSL hit in game two.

Zak Larkin had McElderry's number from the start. Larkin accounted for three of the six hits in the game and started things off with a single to left. Jarod Hahn followed with a single to left but was thrown out trying to stretch it into a double. Paul Trenhaile fouled out down the right field line and Larkin was gunned down at the plate trying to score.
Larkin doubled in the third inning but was left in place and singled and stole second in the fifth before Hahn flied out.

Gardner falls to 7-4 on the season.
