Box Score ST. CHARLES, Mo. - - The Truman State University men's basketball team saw its 2015-16 season come to a close on Friday night, as the Bulldogs fell 77-62 to No. 14 Wisconsin-Parkside in the quarterfinal round of the Great Lakes Valley Conference tournament at Family Arena.
The Bulldogs, who finished the 2015-16 campaign with a 21-9 overall record, hung with the region's current top-ranked team for much of the game not on the strength of its outside game, but that of its inside touch around the hoop, as junior
Billy Daniel led all scorers with 20 points on 9-of-14 from the field, while also adding eight rebounds and three blocked shots in 25 minutes. Redshirt junior
Connor Erickson, still rebounding from a late-season injury, was the only other Bulldog in double-figures, finishing with 10 points on 5-of-7 shooting in 12 minutes of action.
Truman jumped out to an early 6-1 lead on the Rangers (23-4), but fell behind late in the half and trailed by six, 38-32, at the intermission. The Bulldogs, while putting the game into just a one possession margin multiple times through the first 12-15 minutes of the second half, could never get over the hump, as UWP maintained a lead for the rest of the game. Truman's last gasp came with five minutes to play, as a Daniel lay-up cut the Ranger lead to five, but an 8-2 Parkside spurt send the lead to double-figures at 70-59 with less than two minutes to play.
For the game, the Bulldogs shot 47% from the floor, connecting on 27-of-58 field goals but made just 3-of-12 (season lows in both makes and attempts) from the three-point line. All three of the 'Dogs' triples came in the final seven minutes of action, while Parkside also held a massive edge at the free throw line, going 17-of-25 to Truman's 5-of-6. In addition, the Rangers dominated the glass, out-rebounding Truman 41-27, canceling out Truman's 10-5 advantage in the steals category.
Senior
Andrew Vander Zwaag scored nine points, and senior
