ROMEOVILLE, Ill. - - Outside hitters Heather Hargadine and Allie Brak notched double-doubles, and sophomore Abby Heise added 10 kills on a .300 hitting line, as the Truman volleyball team hit .267 in a first-round four-set win against Southern Indiana in its Great Lakes Valley Conference tournament opener on Friday night.

The Bulldogs (22-10) advance to Saturday night's 7:30 pm semifinal match and will face the top seed and tournament host out of the East division - Lewis (Ill.). The Bulldogs and Flyers opened the GLVC schedule back on September 21, with Lewis earning a 3-1 home win against the Bulldogs.

Truman took early control of the first set, hitting .350 in the frame and siding-out at a 72 percent clip to take a comfortable 25-19 decision. Hargadine put away five kills to lead the Bulldogs to the quick lead.

In the second set, the Bulldogs fell behind 12-8 before scoring five straight to take a 13-12 lead. After the teams played to a 15-15 tie, the Bulldogs scored three straight to push forward 18-15. Despite the Screaming Eagles pulling to within one on a pair of occurrences, Truman never surrendered the lead en route to a 25-22 second set decision.

The third set followed a similar script early, as a quick 3-0 burst pulled Truman out of an 8-4 hole in the early going. However, it was USI that rebounded this time, as the Eagles built leads of 13-9, 19-15, and 23-17 on its way to taking the third set, 25-20.

The teams came out dead even in the fourth frame, playing to a 5-5 tie before an 8-2 outburst by the Bulldogs built a 13-7 Truman advantage. Two USI points pulled the blue and red within four, but three more points on the serving of Heise sent the 'Dogs back on top 16-9 and forced the second Screaming Eagle timeout of the set. Truman's lead eventually increased to 20-10 and 22-11 before the Bulldogs capped the match with another 3-0 run – ending the match with an emphatic block by Heise and fellow sophomore Ali Patterson for a 25-13 romp.

Hargadine (15 kills, 11 digs) and Brak (15 kills, 10 digs) led the Bulldogs, with the tandem also combining for five block assists. Patterson added a nine-kill, six-block night for 12 points, while Heise checked in with 11 points on 10 kills and two block assists. Junior Abby Moser picked up 15 digs from her libero position and dealt five aces, while fellow junior Meghan Zimmerman posted a four-kill, 49-assist, 12-dig stat line for a double-double of her own.

USI hit just .190 for the match and was led by 18 kills by Lauren DeShaney. After being out-blocked in USI's 3-1 win earlier this month in Kirksville, the Bulldogs turned away seven USI attacks while being blocked just five times.
