Wayne Clinton was a starter one year for the St. Louis University freshman basketball team before transferring to this university. He began playing for the Bulldogs in 1962-63 and was a starter for three seasons. As a senior in 1964-65 he led the MIAA in scoring with a 19.0 average and was named to the All-MIAA team. He also made the MIAA Christmas All-Tournament team for two years. Mr. Clinton excelled in track, setting a school record in the long jump with a leap of 24-7. He was the MIAA outdoor long jump champion for two years and also won the indoor individual title. He graduated from the university with a B.S.E. degree in 1966 and later completed his M.A. degree here. For the past 23 years he has been a teacher and coach in the Ames (Iowa) School System. He has taught at Welch Junior High School and is in his eight year at Ames High School as head boy's basketball coach as well as assistant girl's track coach and softball coach. Last year the basketball team was ranked number one among Iowa 3-A schools in one poll and second in another. He was selected as District Coach of the Year. Mr. Clinton is a long-time collegiate basketball official on the major college level and has officiated football in the Iowa Conference. He competed in AAU basketball for several years and recently was inducted into the Iowa Men's AAU Hall of Fame. Mr. Clinton is active in various civic organizations.
